Dolphin is an open-source Nintendo GameCube, Wii, and Triforce (the arcade machine based on the Gamecube) emulator for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X (Intel-based).
Dolphin is the first emulator to successfully run commercial Nintendo GameCube and Wii games. It is still the only emulator capable of running commercial Wii games. Its name gives reference to the Nintendo Dolphin, which was the development codename for the GameCube.
Dolphin is a community driven project; with developers from all over the world who work together to bring you this high-quality software with remarkable features.
Most games run perfectly or with minor bugs. Games are playable at HD quality, up to 1080p. This is a remarkable feature the actual Gamecube and Wii consoles are not capable of. As an open source project everyone can commit improvements. The code is hosted on code.google.com. Dolphin is actively developed and almost every day new features are added and bugs fixed as well.
Dolphin has received widespread acclaim across various independent gaming sites. For instance, Eurogamer and 1UP.com commend the ability to play games in high-definition. It has also been highly praised for the high compatibility of games with the emulator and the ability to emulate not just one but two consoles. It has also received the attention of many websites due to it being the only emulator to properly emulate a seventh generation console.
